Lunch with the Girls

Recently Year 9 girls participated in a Beacon event “Lunch with the Girls”. This workshop focused on leadership and self-awareness. The students met with an number of career focused Mornington Peninsula businesswomen who shared their experiences.  Beacon is considered a very important part of WPSC life with many events in different year levels exposing students to different pathways. We would like to thank Beacon facilitators Kendall Macdowell and Rebecca Macauley who ran the day. Feedback from the girls at the workshop said it had been very beneficial for them.

The Beacon Foundation  said, “It is great to hear your students participated with enthusiasm and maturity. Obviously you made great efforts to invite wonderful female role models, allowing the girls to  develop an awareness of women in their community. Well done to you and the school for embracing the program and providing your students with the opportunities Beacon has to offer”.

Principal for a Day

On the 15th August I had the pleasure of hosting Councillor David Garnock for the Principal for a Day program. It was interesting talking to David about his work background in the Navy and leadership experience. David visited a number of classes including an “extra” I had to take on the day, and was impressed with the innovative work that we are completing at the school including our VCAL program and Project 9. I would like to thank David for taking the time to be involved in this program.

Parents Making a Difference

This is a great opportunity for parents concerned about transition to secondary school but is also aimed at supporting parents with students in the early years of secondary school. The session has been organised through the local LLEN and is facilitated by the inspiring speaker Angie Wilcock. I recommned this parents new to the school or interested in supporting their child in their secondary schooling.

Whole school assembly

Today we held the last whole school of term 2. I spoke to students about the importance of having a good balance in what they do, life is not all about study and work. I reflected on the importance of having an interest in a club or sport and some of the achievements of our students. It was a pleasure to hear Madi Watson-Bell speak about her achievement in scouting outside of school. Madi recently received the Australian Scout Mediallion. Certificates were also presented to a number of students who raised money for the Red Shield Appeal.

Navy Cadets Assessment Parade

On Sunday 19th May I had the pleasure of being invited to the Assessment Parade of the TS Tingira Unit at HMAS Cerberus Recruitment School. This was a great opportunity to see many WPSC students participating in this important day in front of navy personnel, family and guests. The students should be very proud of their effort.

The day reinforced to me how important it is that students have a good balance of activity in their lives. Participating in sporting clubs and other organisations gives students the opportunity to succeed in many different ways.

Anzac Day assembly

Well done to all the students involved in our Anzac Day assembly. It was great to hear the Last Post played live by Mr Maughan and our students in 8C recited the poem “For the Fallen”, which contains the words of  The Ode in the middle verse.

A minute silence was held after the Last Post. I made a speech to students about how WWI had affected VFL football clubs at the time with many lives lost. This can be seen on our  WPSC YouTube channel.
