General Transition Information

Commencing Secondary School is an exciting transition for students and their families. At Western Port Secondary College, we aim to make this vital transitional period as seamless and positive as possible. Throughout the year we work closely with our feeder primary schools to ensure that we begin to build a relationship with students from as early as Grade Four. We encourage our Grade Six students who are transitioning to strive to be their personal best, respect others and get involved in all learning opportunities that they are presented with.

Application Process

The application process for Year 7 enrolment is determined by the Victorian Department of Education and Training and is initially undertaken by the school your student attends during their Grade 6 year of schooling. It is not possible to apply for a place in Year 7 before your child is in Grade 6.  Families residing interstate and overseas when their child is in Grade 6 are advised to contact the school to make a direct application.

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones.  Students residing in this zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.  The DET provides guidance through the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations.

You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the DET’s website under School zones.
