Junior School Years 7-9

Welcome to the Junior School of Western Port Secondary College. Our junior school offers exposure and introduction to all Domain Based subjects and programs, experiences and opportunities to identify strengths, passions and interests with the aim of engaging students in their learning experience. At Year 7 and 8 students undertake a prescribed course and moving into Year 9 the introduction of elective options.

 

Year 7 & 8.

In Years 7 and 8 at Western Port Secondary College, students are engaged and challenged through a diverse and engaging curriculum with a strong focus on critical thinking and deep inquiry skills. Throughout our curriculum, we encourage academic excellence, curiosity, and independent thinking learning habits. To develop and promote the learning of 21st century skills,  our curriculum is supported with every student in Year 7 and 8 equipped with a Lenovo Yoga device.

At Western Port Secondary College, we recognise the importance of literacy skills across the curriculum. To support students in their literacy learning, we offer our Year 7 and 8 students a Literacy Enrichment and Advancement Program (LEAP), which includes a robust focus on reading, writing and communication skills.

Year 9.

In Year 9 at Western Port Secondary College, students build on their knowledge from the junior years and take the exciting first step of choosing their individual specialist subjects. Along with their Core subjects, these electives all have a strong focus on critical thinking, inquiry skills and aim to give a little taste of future pathways. Students also participate in ICARE which focuses on the themes of Community, Careers, Conservation and Culture. To develop and promote the learning of 21st century skills, our curriculum is supported with every student in Year 9 equipped with a Lenovo Yoga device.
